Essex is just five miles from
Burlington International Airport (BTV), only 4 hours from Boston by car, 5 1/2 hours from New York City. There’s an Amtrak rail station right in Essex Junction. Vermont Transit and Megabus are nearby. You can travel to New York State via toll-free bridges and by ferry.

ESSEX BY THE NUMBERS
Essex is located within the Burlington-South Burlington metropolitan area, consisting of the three northwestern Vermont counties of Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle and encompassing the cities of Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski; the towns of Colchester, Essex, and Williston; and the village of Essex Junction. According to the 2021 U.S. Census, the metro area had an estimated population of 226,611, approximately one third of Vermont’s total population.
